"DOGS HAVE OWNERS, CATS HAVE STAFF" (unknown)

Miroki is dedicated to the well being of all cats!

Our names are Greg & Ros Cox, we live in Warnbro a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
Way back in 1984 we were lucky to have Regal a Siamese Seal Point live with us. That was the start of a long & glorious love affair with these magnificent felines.
As a result Miroki cattery was born in 1999 & we were registered a year later. The decision to become breeders was simple (one cat will undoubtedly lead to many), but it does require dedication & perserverence but most of all a great love of cats.

The average person who enquires about a pedigree cat as a pet will often say that the cost is to high, therefore coming to the wrongful idea that cat breeders are making money.
I'll let you in on a little secret.
A "true" breeder, that is one who is registered, complies to the laws & regulations set down, does NOT make money, in fact we are very lucky to break even.
Your next question would be,"Why then do we do it?" It's a hobby, a labour of love. Truly though, what most breeders endevour to do is breed the best 'type' of cat they can & ensure the future of the breed they represent. The result of this is a beautiful pedigreed cat that you are proud to have as part of your family.

The best part for us is the pitter-patter of little paws running up & down the passage, the purring in your ear at 2a.m. in the morning,or 13 kittens who have been asleep for the past 2 hours who wake up & decide its playtime, ON YOUR BED !!!!!!

The only hard part is when its time for our babies to go with their new family (there are always tears shed at this time), but the joy we know they will give to their new family makes it all worth while.

Our cat houses & where the girls have their babies!!

At Miroki all our girls have a choice as to whether they wish to stay out in the cattery or come inside the house.
The cattery is a spacious brick & lined building ,which is fully insulated to protect them from the heat. It is very light & airy but we have the ability to close the cattery up on the few cold wet windy days we have in Perth. Our boys have their own building that is separated, from the girls, by a walkway but they can all see & 'talk' to each other making mating times very simple.Unfortunately as we haven't had all our boys from babies we have to keep them separated as the do tend to argue too much over an attractive girl. Each boy has access to a separate outside sun/fun park to keep them entertained(after all they do spend the biggest part of their lives with little other feline contact).Because of our climate here all our cats have 24 hour access to their outside enclosures.

We are in the process of cat proofing our rear patio so the girls & young boys can use that & I will divide the girls outside run into 3 seperate sun parks for the boys, giving them the option of morning or afternoon sun depending on what they want!

When the girls are about three weeks pregnant they are kept in the house(much to the disgust of the others, because then they get limited access to our house). This gives the new mum to-be plenty of time to explore & find a nice place for themselves & their new babies.
We do have birthing cages, but they have only been used about three times in two years.A quite, dark place with good access is is best but as we have found in the past, its nothing to raise a bed, remove drawers, shift shoes etc, anything to make the new mum comfortable & at ease!! After all they are the ones having babies so you shouldn't force them to do what they don't want to.

O.K. Now you have learnt a little about Miroki Cattery & what we are about. Why don't you join us & make the rest of the journey through the "MAGICAL WORLD OF CATS"
